NOTE: ACTION ITEMS WILL BE HIGHLIGHTED FOR BOARD MEMBER(S) RESPONSIBLE FOR FOLLOWUP.
MINUTES: Approval of minutes of JUNE 8, meeting postponed – minutes not available.
REPORTS:
Treasurer: Monthly Account presented. Note that the Bradley Lightning canoe does not come under “everyday expenses” but should be shown as Capital Investment. MJK Heihei brought in a profit of about $2,000, due to sponsorship of T-shirts by Keauhou Resort, and prizes by Kona Brewing Company.
Membership: still growing – will save some club shirts for new members – sell others at Regatta 7/07
Communications: Diane Sands presented a proposal from Backroads, Inc. where Keauhou Canoe Club would provide up to 20 tours to Backroads clients. These tours would consist of paddling in the double hull canoe and giving historical and cultural information during paddling and during a picnic lunch at our Halau. Jane will find out about any additional insurance that might be required. It was decided to do this on a trial basis for the July 25 and August 7 events in conjunction with the scheduled Kayak tour. Jane and Bill will head up the July tour, with Diane & Crhis Uding’s participation as well. M-Jane, 2nd Bill. Passed.
Behavioral norms and guidelines were circulated, agreed upon and have been adopted by entire BOD for the KCC Board to function M-Jane, 2nd Bill. Passed unanimously.
ByLaws Committee need to meet to work on Policy & Procedures.
Athletics: Clarification of authority between Athletic Director and Coaches needs to be made – tabled until next meeting.
Moku Championships – we will enter as Middle size club (17 crews or fewer)
State Championships - entries will include all crews that qualify and desire to go, which may exceed the 6 crew limit for small club division. Jonathan pointed out the downside of such a decision – that we would be in no position to win the next size division, and thus the racing pedigree of the club will be diminished. M-Jane, 2nd Peter & Bill Passed.
Race Secretary: HCRA/MOH cards are now being used for ID at regattas, and will be required for each paddler participating in HCRA Champs. These cards will be put in plastic sleeves, one crew per sheet. This means that paddlers entered in 2 events will need a duplicate card for the 2nd event. Each paddler’s ID & Waiver also need to be available for inspection if requested.
Moku/HCRA: Next MOH meeting will be hosted by Keauhou CC on July 6 at Keauhou CC halau, 8 p.m. following the lane drawing at 7 p.m. for the Aunty Maile MOH Championships next week. No refreshments need be provided – just the location with tables and chairs for up to 20 participants.
Operations: Key for little OC-1 equipment locker is now on same ring as paddle storage shed key, and will not be replaced with combination lock, but a second key will be placed in the halau shed.
No personal equipment is to be kept in the halau sheds – only iako for Coaches/Kids’ OC-1s.
Eddie Nabarro has been contacted to repair Club Thunder & other assorted OC-1s for use in Kids’ Program. Funds from recycling will cover the cost of refurbishing the 3 canoes designated for the Juniors’ Program.
Shawne Anderson has donated Dale’s OC-1 Thunder for use in our Kids’ program.
Old County Boat “Kaulana Kai” – has Bucky sold it or our can club appropriate it for our own use?
Old Business: Uncle Louis Kahanamoku Regatta – 7/07/07 at Kailua Pier. Progress report:
Lanes are being set today – Arnold Ako hired to set with Linda & Bill Greentree, and Shawn Baker & his skiff. Al Estencion’s boat will also be used – including Saturday for setting up and taking down the flags.
Work assignments made by Peter with each crew working an hour in the Food Booth and assisting with T-shirt sales. Bill and Cindy Armer are heading up sales in both booths.
New Business: AJ McDanold Race – Jane has e-mailed AJ regarding sponsorship with no reply yet received. – Medals need are being ordered. If sponsorship from the McDanold Ohana is not forthcoming, we won’t give T-shirts to the paddlers entering this race.
