CALL TO ORDER: Motion to appoint Jane Dulaney to replace Chris Uding as Race Secretary for balance of 2007 – Moved by Jane Bockus, seconded by Paul Aguire. Vote was unanamus. MINUTES: Approval of minutes of last meetings were posted on the website.
REPORTS: BOARD MEMBER STATUS: Vacancies for 2008 board - Treasurer, Ken Pool; Athletic Director, Jonathan Grayson; Race Secretary, Chris Uding; Recording Secretary, Lian Nazara; At Large: Linda Greentree, & Past President, Peter Lasich.
Nominating Committee to recruit/accept nominations – and report progress at each of next 3 meetings, final list will be due 2-3 weeks before general meeting so names can be sent in newsletter before meeting and ballot can be created.
Discussion on recognizing service of outgoing board members was discussed. Will give gift certificate to P3 for $25 – moved by Fred, seconded by Bill given at GM meeting -2 opposed – so it carries. December board meeting to be a pot luck at the halau. (note: Was the location of our halau actually chosen?) Perhaps at someone’s house would be more comfortable…
Communications:
Jane on behalf of Sammie – rec paddlers – people who show up late & who are new paddlers can not go into a single hull. They must wait for the double hull to come back. Question must be asked ‘can you swim?... Have you paddled before?’ Rec paddlers need to stand back for seats in double hull…liability is implied with steersman – as captain of boat through insurance.
Annual Newsletter will be sent out with membership renewal, with recognition of special things that get done during the year. Will be done by Mid November the newsletter will be given to Ken by Jane and Bill. A list of Mahalos will also be included as not to miss anyone’s contribution to the club.
Jonathon reported that the chairman of GEMS said the Navigator for the Hokulea might give a presentation at Keauhou Bay on the Saturday the 17 of November after the Abbots Race at Keauhou.
Treasurer: Ken Pool presented the monthly statement for review.
Jonathon presented some bills and revenue generated, so there will be some adjustments made. Noted that some of the entry fees from Lillio need to be adjusted on statement as well. Jonathon moved to accept, Mark seconded – all were in favor – monthly budget was accepted.
Membership:
Recreational paddlers still joining – Memberships should be renewed every January – only new members who have joined in December will carry forth to next year.
The 2008 Membership forms will be mailed out again this year with waiver printed on reverse side of form. A separate HCRA waiver will need to be completed by April 1st for any racers competing in the 2008 season (HCRA/MOH requirement).
T-shirts for next year need to be decided on and ordered in time for Annual Meeting, January 6, 2008. Jane will provide samples next meeting. Barb Pool’s art work to be used.
Athletics: Molokai Race report MEN 40’s 5th out of 15, 41st out of 112, women 50’s – 5th in their division. 61st over all. Results in the future will be linked on the website.
Evaluation of racing program by Athleteic Director, Coaches and Racing Committee to be presented at November meeting. Baseline will be goals set forth by race committee.
Stephanie reported that we reached a new level on loaning of canoes for Lilio. 8 canoes – 11 out of town crews were serviced. Stephanie has made a list of these out of town clubs who might be able to reciprocate for races held in their areas.
Clairfication was made regarding the number of women’s crews that were using Keauhou for training for World Sprint trials. Crews contain Keauhou club members.
Race Secretary:
Moku/HCRA: Stephanie and Fred reported on new rules proposed for 2008 at HCRA Meeting on 9/29. MOKU want to see the online version of the lane draw simultaneous from Jonathon. Rule changes: - renumbering of canoes…using alpha letter for each club’s fiberglass canoe: Keauhou’s canoes would be– H, H1, H2, H3, … Eliminate seniors race except for MOKU Championships Change flag color to make regatta flags more visible
Schedule complications discussed: Date for AJ MacDanold is during world sprints – cancel? Regatta is for same date, Honu is during another obstacle for the MJK heihei in June . Next meeting, an island event calendar will be included so decisions can be made.
Three lanes back for states.
Operations: OC-1 canoes for Junior Program - approval has already been given to select the three most similar OC-1’s to get refurbished by Eddie Nabarro when he returns from the mainland. These canoes will be used for seat races for the high school program.
Kalani will refurbish the Koa Canoes. Lele needs to have fiberglass removed completely. Malia Kini needs to be completely stripped and refinished.
Jane moved that we replace the coaches boat and spend up to $15,000 to get a new one. All other parts and pieces will be sold to offset the cost. Mark seconded the motion and it was voted on unanimously. Peter will take charge of this task.
Old Business:
MOH Races we will sponsor for 2008 – Regatta & 2 Long Distance Races?
HIPA Races for 2007/2008 Abbott Galaher Race Nov. 10 or 17 & Kauikeaouli/Kuuipo Race March 22/08
New Business: 3 Ironman Aid Stations 2 on alii drive, one in Hawi. Rec paddlers – Hawi – for racers – matching money. Need help on the way.
Need a motor boat for Abotts….

Paul – what is the long term vision of the club about membership and growing the club? Discussion to be forth coming. Not new business.
