REPORTS:
Communications:
Storage of sailing canoe at Keauhou. Gaylord has a replica of a Polynesian sailing canoe that he would like to store at Keauhou. This is a prototype and Gaylord will do development (not on site) and then donate the results to possibly Chadd Paishon for future production and use. Decision to be made under new business.
Thank you note received from Ryan Daugherty for scholarship
Cheryl’s request for funding—discussed under new business.
Treasurer: Monthly report—we are doing well financially—more income than last year, but also more expenses—especially under boat repairs and maintenance as that had been put off for several years. Report accepted unanimously.
Membership: More recreational paddlers registering.
Athletics:
July 5th Founders Regatta—Board has their jobs. ¼ mile course. Set up starting today and this afternoon. Good to go at this point.
Moku O Hawaii and HCRA (States) Championships outlook—should we only take 17 crews to MOH Championship in Hilo?—in order to remain in the class B division we are defending—most likely the way to go as bodies are limited for Mokus. Assuming Keauhou qualifies 12+ crews and all paddlers want and commit to go, Board supports all crews going to HCRA Championships on Oahu that want to attend regardless of what division that puts the club.
Makani Kai rental—very popular and very fast canoe—proposed not to lend out after Men’s Novice A race as that is when Keauhou crews will begin most of their use--$200 rental fee.
Board input on Queen Liliuokalani canoe assignments—5 outside crews requested to borrow Keauhou canoes already—need to make sure our racers are covered first. More discussion will need to be had with coaches once regatta season is finished.
Financial support for Long distance—Costs roughly $200 per boat to ship glass boats. Koa is more expensive due to needing to be transported on trailer—approximately $1000- $1200 depending on destination. These charges are for one way transport. Board agrees to assist LD program by paying shipping costs. Board approved unanimously.
July 19th end of road sale—club OC1 canoes not being used will be put into this sale—fundraiser for women’s long distance program.
World sprints update—Crews still determining who will go—costs are the limiting factor.
Race Secretary:
Moku/HCRA: MOH Report—Meeting following lane drawing at halau tonight.
Petition to HCRA to change waiver to be good for a calendar year.
Operations:
Canoe repair progress—awaiting proposal from Kalani (requested in mid-June)
Canoe rack storage—notify people (at least 2 times between now and December) that we will develop new criteria for assignment of racks for active/non C active paddlers.
Old Business:
Preliminary plan for BBQ given to Ross Daugherty on 6/28 to be completed by 10/18.
No further thefts since May activity.
Post Season Party—after long distance season—October 18th. All members invited—support club unity. To be discussed further at next meeting.
New Business:
Funding proposal for GEMS—$1000 donation to program. Check to be given this week.
Funding for Cheryl to offset cell phone bill and gas--$500 to be given to Cheryl. Board approved unanimously. Bill will talk to Paul about a parallel agreement with him.
Gaylord’s proposal—as long as our agreement with KIC is not impacted. To be placed on terrace behind OC1 racks. He can prepare the area. He is willing to share his knowledge of canoes, repairs, sailing, etc. with club members. He will also put up an educational sign and pay the $50 canoe rack fee. Vote approved unanimously.
Next Meeting: Friday, August 8, 2008, 6:30 am Teshima’s Restaurant
Meeting adjourned at 8:44am
Action Item List
Bill to contact OC1 rack renters of changes in criteria for space assignment.
Fred to follow up with ownership of pier at Keauhou. |
