Recreational Paddling Schedule Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays @ 6:30am 6:45 departure) and occasionally if steersman and crew available @8:00AM, as first groups return (note: the last Thursday of every month is our pot luck birthday breakfast, so usually no 8 AM paddle those days). . see map under "contact us" button in the menu on the left Note: Steersmen especially Canoes should not depart before our advertised time of 6:45 a.m. for recreational paddling. People are showing up earlier and launching the canoes and taking off before all paddlers have arrived at the designated recreational paddling time. If you feel the need to be on the water earlier than 6:45, please do not depart the bay, but circle around until the paddlers can be evenly distributed between all the boats. Then, for safety sake, all canoes should stay together (at least within eyesight of one another) while on the water. Finally there is a group that goes Mon Wed Fri ... meeting at 6:15 and departing 6:25.
Strap rigging: Here is a video Jane found for showing how to quick-rig a canoe using the ratchet straps through the gunnels. We have 4 sets, held by Cheryl, and used them last year at the Kawaiihae long distance race. We use them sparingly as we want to make sure folks do not forget how to properly rig. We still prefer cord when time allows canoe to be rigged that way even for the long distance races.
