The Keauhou Canoe Club recreational program operates 3 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Multiple paddling opportunities are provided for members and visiting guests. Regular member paddling is scheduled for 6:30 AM and 8 AM Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Members must be present at 6:15 AM or 7:15 AM in order to participate in the safety briefing and be counted to organize boats.
Between November 15 and April 30 the club also operates a "visitor only" paddle session from 8:15 -10:00 am on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays to help manage the holiday visitor overloads on the morning recreational program. Emphasis is placed on paddling instruction, exposure to Hawaiian culture and history, and an exercise opportunity. Youth as young as 8 and adults as old as 99 have paddled in our program. The primary age group is 40+ years old. The visitor program averages 200 visitors monthly. The club provides paddles, instruction, life vests required for visitors, and a one hour paddling opportunity. The program holds a monthly potluck to celebrate birthdays and hear topics of general interest from various local speakers. This program is the largest in the state of Hawaii and considered the most successful outreach of its kind.
