What to Expect
Aloha Guests of Keauhou Canoe Club
Guest/Visitor Paddling has been suspended since March 13, 2020 due to COVID-19.
In the beginning we all started as guests and want each of you to experience Keauhou Canoe Club members' aloha and beautiful Hawaii. We stress safety, enjoyment on the water, introduction to paddling technique, physical exercise, and learning about Hawaiian culture and traditions and the special qualities about our place at Keauhou Bay.
During the busy winter season (November to April) guest paddlers are welcome Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 8:15 AM. Each session starts at 9 AM but you should arrive 45 mins. early to be oriented, sign a standard liability release waiver, get a paddle, receive introduction to technique, and a safety briefing. Life vests are required for all visitors. The minimum age for children is 8 years old. Let your steersman know if you have any physical limitations or considerations that you want us to take into account.
You will learn the basic OC stroke and be assigned to a seat by the steers-person.
We cover 3-4 miles depending on water conditions and crew skills. We usually take a break to swim, talk story, learn about Hawaiian culture and take a breather before returning to the bay. Everyone helps put the canoes out or back to the beach. We go out year round unless lightning or rough surf present unsafe conditions.
On the last Thursday of the month, we do a birthday potluck and speaker presentation at 8:15. Everyone is welcome to attend that session, with a paddling session to follow.
There is no charge for paddling as we are a canoe club. We do welcome donations and have shirts, hats and keychains available for purchase.
Mahalo for paddling with us at Keauhou Canoe Club!
Keauhou Canoe Club is located on Keauhou Bay at the end of Kamehameha III Road. Park in designated spaces in the turn-around or on the side of the road and take the path to the club located on the left side of the turn-around.
