How to Request Guest Paddling

To qualify as a Hosting KCC Member, you must be registered with dues paid.  You may bring up to 3 guests per session.  Each member can bring guests up to three times a year.

  1. Go onto the website on the Guest Paddling Page and download or print the Guest Paddling Waiver.
  2. Email a signed waiver for each guest (Or a picture of the signed form), together with the name of the hosting member, to the KCC Membership Secretary at Contactkeauhoucanoeclub@gmail.com.  Write "guest waiver" in the subject line.

Complete waivers 48 hours before you want to paddle.
  3. Determine which day you want to paddle.
  4. Contact the Beach Coordinator for your selected paddle time and ask them if they can accommodate your guests. Do this when you sign up for a paddling session time slot.
  5. Get Beach Coordinator approval at least one day before the paddle.
  6. When the Beach Coordinator approves you for a paddle, email the Membership Secretary with the date and names of your guests at Contactkeauhoucanoeclub@gmail.com.

To contact the Beach Coordinator:

  • Fill out a waiver first.
  • Login and go to the Upcoming Paddling Sessions page.
  • Select your paddling time, then click in the round "i" to the left of the selected paddle to display the Beach Coordinator for that paddle.
  • Text your guest paddling request directly to that Beach Coordinator.
  • Tell the coordinator: First and Last Name; age; Level of Paddling Experience

Important:

You must submit a waiver before requesting a paddling slot.
Approval is first-come, first-served based on when a complete request is received. There is a limit to 3 guests per session, when space is available.

Once Guests are Approved for a Paddle

  • Guest paddlers are expected to paddle in the same canoe as the Hosting KCC member.
  • If a guest paddler is new to the sport, they must paddle in a double hull canoe, together with their Hosting Member.
  • If the Beach Coordinator decides that a guest is more advanced, they may paddle in a 6-man canoe (OC-6), together with their Hosting Member.

When Hosting Members and Guests Arrive at the Club in the Morning:

When you arrive at the club in the morning:

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes before the session starts.
  • Size and select a paddle.
  • Select a safety vest (mandatory for insurance requirements)
  • Demonstrate and review the basic stroke.
  • Go over basic safety rules.

Keauhou Canoe Club is located on sacred Hawaiian ground, and respects the culture of outrigger paddling.  We instruct our guests in the following:

  • Understanding the Sacred Grounds.
  • Respecting mana in the canoe, by staying positive and using appropriate language.
  • Being respectful to the Steersman, fellow paddlers and the canoes.
  • Not speaking in the canoe, and listening to and following directions from the steersman in seat 6.

Guest paddlers help to launch the canoes, listen to the steersman, and helps bring the canoes back after the paddle.
