Each year Keauhou Canoe Club hosts a regatta as part of the MOKO O HAWAI’I racing season, the Hawaiʻi Island chapter of the Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association (HCRA). The regatta is held at the historic Kailua Pier in Kailua-Kona, where clubs from across Hawaiʻi Island gather for a full day of competitive outrigger canoe racing.
During the HCRA regatta season, youth, men’s, women’s, and mixed crews compete in a series of sprint races along the Kona coastline. These regattas bring together paddlers of all ages and experience levels, from keiki learning the sport to open racers, masters ,and kupuna representing their clubs with pride. The regatta season builds toward the annual HCRA State Championships.
As host, Keauhou Canoe Club works alongside MOKO O HAWAI’I officials and the paddling community to organize the event and welcome visiting clubs. Regatta day requires the efforts of many volunteers—members helping with setting up tents, making and selling food, selling t-shirts, getting donations and helping the Youth Paddlers with their bake sale, bathrooms, cleanup, and hospitality. We actively seek volunteers from all of our members for this event. If you’re interested, just email contactkeauhoucanoeclub@gmail.com.
Keauhou Canoe Club is proud to host this event each season and to contribute to the growth of outrigger canoe racing on Hawaiʻi Island.
